Flu Vaccinations 2020

This year’s flu campaign is going to be extremely challenging for GP practices. We ordered our flu vaccinations in January 2020 prior to the pandemic and do not have access to further supplies. We will therefore be administering vaccines on a first come, first served basis. Due to social distancing requirements, we will not be able to see as many patients in flu clinics as we would normally would. We are therefore holding four Saturday flu clinics this year as follows;

10 October (now fully booked)

24 October (now fully booked)

31 October (now fully booked)

7 November

If you are under age 65 you will only be offered a vaccination if you have a qualifying medical condition or are pregnant. We will also be offering vaccinations to individuals living in the same household as patients who have been shielding under government guidance. The household member must be a patient at York Street and they must expect to be permanently sharing their living space throughout the winter months.

Please contact the surgery to book an appointment in one of our clinics. For the time being we do not anticipate offering vaccines on any other days until after 7 November. When coming for your appointment you should arrive as close to your allocated appointment time as possible. Please do not come early as we have limited space in our waiting room. You will need to wear a face covering to be admitted into the building and you will need to comply with the strict social distancing measures that we will have in place.

We will again be offering a nasal dose of the flu vaccine to children aged 2 and 3 years old. These will be offered during our routine weekday nurse clinics. Primary school aged children and those in secondary year 7 will be vaccinated at school. We will not be offering vaccines at the surgery to this group.

The Government have also recommended that adults between the ages of 50 and 65 should be offered a flu vaccination, subject to availability. At the time of writing, we have received no guidance on how this will work, nor do we have any indication as to when vaccines will be made available. We have been told to focus on the usual “at risk” groups first. Please do not ring the practice for an appointment if you are in this age group and have not previously been eligible for a vaccination.
