Meningitis can be very serious if not treated quickly, you do not need to wait for a rash if you think it might be meningitis. The NHS website has all the information you need, including what to look out for and when to get medical help – search online for NHS meningitis. If you become concerned about your own or someone else’s health, you must seek medical advice as early as possible. You can call 111 for advice over the phone or go to NHS 111 online. In a medical emergency, do not delay, dial 999.

Meningitis B vaccine- This was introduced in September 2015. Babies born after July 2015 have this as part of their childhood vaccination schedule. For children born before 1st July 2015, there has been no guidance that we will be offering this vaccination. You will need to source this privately. Some patients who have been offered preventative antibiotics or certain underlying health conditions may also be eligible to have this vaccine.
Meningitis ACWY vaccine– Children receive this in school. If your child missed this or they are home schooled they will be able to receive a vaccine via a catch up clinic by calling The Cambridgeshire School Immunisation Team on 0300 555 5055 or at the surgery if they are no longer at school (up to the age of 25).
